Derbyshire County Council has decided to sell Elvaston Castle Country Park.
Together with and under the guidance and leadership of Elvaston Parish Council, The Friends of Elvaston and the Elvaston Castle Action Group, (working with and alongside The Elvaston Castle Gardens Trust and the current management at The Castle), are proposing to submit a bid themselves, preparations for which are well under way.
In order make this happen we will have to approach funding bodies such as the National Lottery Heritage Fund (HLF) and others for support.
We are asking the community to help us in this by writing a letter of support for what we are trying to achieve, which is to keep The Castle and Country Park in community ownership and not sell it to private buyers who could, if they wished, close it to the public.
Ideally, the letter should state what The Park means to you, how you or your family use it and, if you agree with us, your support for our community bid by Elvaston Parish Council, The Friends of Elvaston and The Elvaston Castle Action Group.
The letter has to be addressed as;
‘To whom it may concern.’
If you are part of a club or organisation, please send a letter dated and signed by a committee member with your club or organisation’s name at the top.
If you are a couple or an individual, a signed and dated letter with your address on it, if possible, please.
Preferably, the letter will be sent to us attached to an email, but if not, an email containing the details above will be fine.
It should be sent to: info@friendsofelvaston.co.uk
Thank you to those who have already written to us; and to the people who have not written, we would love to hear from you.
Thanking you, The Friends of Elvaston Castle.
